This weekend I went to the Highgate Cemetery in London. Perched on top of a hill in London and covered in forest, this Victorian cemetery is one of London's oldest. The Victorians were very grandiose about death - and would compete to have the biggest funeral, the most horses pulling the herse or the most hired mourners. So it figures that their graves, monuments and mausoleums would be as big, romantic and imposing. While I thought it would be very sinister - I don't really like graveyards - it's such an amazing and haunting beautiful place.
